Cupping for runners
My quads are super sore after the 3 hilly loops in Central Park yesterday. Running 20 miles really kills...

Post run cupping: cupping improves circulation, breaks up the fascia, relieves tightness and pain therefore helps with recovery. If you are an athlete I suggest cupping 1-2x a week as part of your recovery.

Cupping for knee pain after running
Cupping, dry needling, acupuncture and strength training are all beneficial for knee pain. Iliotibial band syndrome is a condition where a tendon called the iliotibial band gets irritated or swollen from rubbing against the hip or knee bones, causing knee pain. It is usually coming from weakness in the hip, core or ankle.

Strengthening of the hip / core / ankle is usually the solution, however acupuncture, dry needling and cupping are important for symptom relief, and to fasten recovery time. Cupping, dry needling and acupuncture loosen the tight tissue, improve circulation and provide pain relief. Strength training ensures that the joints are stable and the muscles work in balance.

Cupping therapy for upper back pain in a swimmer
Post swim cupping: cupping therapy helps to relieve stiffness, tightness, pain and improve circulation. Feels great, like an inverted massage, as the tissue is sucked into the cup. Glass cups feel better over the skin, plastic cups feel rather rough.

If you are a swimmer I suggest cupping and acupuncture once a week as part of your recovery.

Cupping Therapy for Shoulder Pain

Cupping therapy for shoulder pain
Cupping therapy, especially when it is combined with acupuncture, dry needling and corrective exercise is very beneficial for shoulder pain.

Guess where this patient's pain is? Hint - it's the darkest spot. The infraspinatus muscle is strained.

Cupping marks are diagnostic, darker color means that the blood in that area doesn't flow freely, causing "stagnation". Cupping "moves the blood", improves circulation, releases fascial tightness, loosens tightness, reduces pain and fastens healing.

This patient has an infraspinatus strain from swimming. He is being seen twice a week for acupuncture, dry needling, cupping and corrective exercises to relieve pain and build a strong and balanced body. He is training for a full Ironman.
