I used to suffer daily from frontal, throbbing headaches that started around 5 pm every day. When my bartending shift ended, I would get a severe headache, and my face would feel hot and red. These headaches were caused by stress, as shift change was always chaotic. I was advised to try acupuncture, and after about eight sessions, I was cured. My diagnosis was “Liver Yang Rising,” a common and easily treatable condition in Chinese Medicine. Fifteen years later, I am still headache-free, except for occasional weather-related headaches.
I also used to suffer from debilitating anxiety and PMDD. I tried various treatments, including exercise, dietary changes, meditation, and therapy, but none of them were effective. I didn’t want to start with medications because I knew they were often trial and error. I decided to try acupuncture again. This time, my diagnosis was “Liver Qi Stagnation.” Similar to my headaches, after about eight sessions (twice a week, so only four weeks), I was about 85% better. I continued the treatments once a week for another eight weeks and was about 95% better. Overall, I felt calmer, slept better, and could think clearly for the first time in my life. I had more energy throughout the day and was able to calm myself faster when I felt anxious. I still go for acupuncture once a week when I feel my anxiety is about to return. I am okay with this because acupuncture is the only treatment that has helped my anxiety and the severe PMDD I used to suffer from.
